Joshua 5:12 “Now the manna ceased on the day after they had eaten the produce of the land…”

God promised Abraham’s descendants a land of milk and honey. When God sent out twelve spies to check the Promised Land, ten of the spies returned with an evil report that sent fear into the hearts of the Israelites. They said the land was truly a land of milk and honey, but the people who lived there are giants. This caused so much fear that the people wanted to return to Egypt. God was angry in their unbelief and lack of trust in Him, so He punished the Israelites by allowing them to wander in the wilderness for 40 years, until the old generation passed away and a new generation were raised up to take their place (Numbers 13, 14).

In that 40 years the new generation saw the power of God and the provision of God. Every day (except Sabbath) God sent manna from heaven and even provided water from the rock twice. Their clothes and shoes were not worn out (Deuteronomy 29:5). God provided shade with the pillar of cloud by day, and light and warmth with the pillar of fire by night.

Now that they had entered into the Promised Land they tasted the produce of the land, and on the same day, manna from heaven stopped. However, just because they started to eat the produce of the land does not mean that they should stop trusting in the Lord. To possess the Promised Land and to live peacefully in the Lord, they must continue to trust in God in battle and for rain that they might have food.

As New Testament believers we don’t stop trusting in God after salvation, we must continue to trust in Him for victory in spiritual battles and our daily provision until we finish our journey.

Your Pastor

If you would like to accept Jesus into your heart please pray the following prayer.
“Dear God, I am a sinner and need forgiveness. I believe that Jesus Christ shed His precious blood and died for my sin. I am willing to turn from sin. I now invite Christ to come into my heart and life as my personal Saviour.”

If you have just prayed this prayer and accepted Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, congratulations! We invite you to contact us as we would love to pray a blessing over your life and help guide you on your journey.

The next step. As a way to grow closer to Him, the Bible tells us to follow up on our commitment.

  • Get baptised as commanded by Christ.
  • Tell someone else about your new faith in Christ.
  • Spend time with God each day. It does not have to be a long period of time. Just develop the daily habit of praying to Him and reading His Word. Ask God to increase your faith and your understanding of the Bible.
  • Seek fellowship with other followers of Jesus. Develop a group of believing friends to answer your questions and support you.
  • Find a local church where you can worship God.

God bless you.
